Six Forks Smiles is excited to announce a new treatment for receding gums. This fantastic alternative to gum grafting is called “Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation” or “Pinhole Surgical Technique.”
What is the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique?
Invented and patented by Dr. John Chao, the”The Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST™)” is a minimally invasive, incision-free, suture-free procedure for treating gum recession. The procedure is a dental procedure used to straighten and adjust uneven or receding gum lines along the tooth crown. The procedure is done through small pinholes made in the gum above the teeth where the recession has begun to occur. The dentist will then used the specially designed instruments to gently loosen the gums and pull it into place. Afterwards the holes are filled with collagen to ensure it staying in place.

Painless Treatment for Receding Gums in Raleigh
Traditional gum grafting is painful. With the Pinhole Surgical Technique; however, there is no incision or suturing, so patients can expect minimal pain, swelling, and bleeding. Dr. Rebecca Schmorr will provide patients with the local anesthetic to numb the localized area that she will perform her procedure.
Will there be any stitches or recovery time?
Since the procedure is non-invasive, there will be no surgical cuts into the gum line. Dr. Schmorr will place the pin needs inside the gums. There will be no need for any kind of suture because there is no open wounds or incisions. Since the procedure is non-invasive, the recovery time will be much faster than a traditional procedure. Most patients can recover as fast as 24 hours.
