What are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants are artificial, but natural looking tooth roots that give a permanent base for fixed or replaced tooth.  When compared to crown and bridges, dental implants are an effective long-term solution for people who suffer from missing teeth, damaged teeth or chronic dental problems. Dental implants are made up of metal post or frames and are surgically infused into the jawline beneath the gums, so they feel and fit naturally.

Why should I get a Dental Implant?

When considering getting cosmetic treatment, you should consider the things that a dental implant would help or prevent.  Here are the reasons why you should get a dental implant in Raleigh:

  • Replace one or multiple teeth that are missing or damaged.
  • Relief of symptoms caused by shifting teeth, including joint pain and bite problems.
  • Restoration of your smile.
  • Restore problems with chewing, digestion, or speech.
  • Restoration of facial tissue.
  • Stabilize and support bridges or dentures.

How do Dental Implants Work?

When it comes to dental implants, there is a process that will take place over several visits to Six Forks Smiles, but it will be worth it.

Before getting an implant, Dr. Rebecca Schmorr or her associates will perform an x-ray to see if your gums are healthy and strong enough to support the implant.  After concluding that your gums are adequate for the implant, the dentist will surgically anchor the implant into your jawline to provide support for your new artificial teeth; therefore, dental bridges and dentures won’t move out of place.

Once installed, the dentist will secure the gum over the implant, which will remain covered until the implant is infused with the bone.  Once infused, the dentist will expose the implant and attach extensions or posts.  After all that said and done, Dr. Schmorr or her associates will make a artificial tooth or crown to attach to the implant.  This is held with a titanium screws that will keep your new teeth in place, which means no fuss with food or chewing.
